THE QURAN IS NOT A “MUSLIM BOOK”

By The Humble Servant, September 22, 2023

Who is the Quran for? Many label it a “Muslim Book,” assuming it’s exclusively for Muslims. This stems from how scriptures are tied to groups—like the Bible to Christians or the Vedas to Hindus. But the Quran breaks this mold. It’s God’s message for all—Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, and every faith or none. It’s their scripture too, intact and accessible in any language, unlike other texts where truth is muddled by human alterations.

The Quran alone remains unchanged, offering a complete system of Submission. Previous scriptures, though once divine, now bear distortions—like worshiping Jesus or praying in his name, practices God never sanctioned. These corruptions fragment God’s guidance, leaving incomplete systems. Following them is like building your soul on scraps instead of the full, nourishing plan detailed in the Quran. Even if you had an unaltered older scripture, the Quran consolidates all prior messages into one final, universal guide. To follow it is to honor your own faith’s root truth.

The ultimate criterion for Heaven is uncompromising: worship God alone. Belief in God’s existence isn’t enough—you must reject all partners or idols beside Him. Idolatry, the gravest sin, nullifies all good works if unrepented at death. It’s not optional; it’s the line between eternal success and loss.

What is Idolatry?

Idolatry isn’t just bowing to statues—it’s any belief that something or someone shares God’s power. The most glaring example across religions is worshiping Jesus. Christians elevate him to divinity, pray to him, or see him as a savior who died for their sins—ideas absent from God’s authentic word. This idolatry implies God needs a partner or intermediary, undermining His absolute authority and awareness of every deed. Jesus, a messenger, never claimed divinity or intercession; he worshiped God alone. To deify him—or any human—mockingly suggests God lacks control, needing His creation to assist Him. This ego-driven delusion lets people dodge accountability, hoping someone else bears their sins. Yet, no one can. Each soul answers to God directly.

Other forms of idolatry include:

Believing saints, prophets, or messengers intercede or help in this life or the next. Only God holds that power.

Adding names to God’s, like Muslims appending Muhammad to “There is no god except God” (La Elaaha Ella Allah). This violates monotheism and the command not to favor one messenger over others.

Revering objects (tombs, talismans), occult practices (astrology, tarot), or unsanctioned laws (e.g., dietary rules God didn’t decree).

Exalting humans—prophets, clergy, or gurus—as divine, partners, or lords beside God, or loving them as much as Him.

Prioritizing worldly pursuits (wealth, status) over God, letting them distract from His worship.

These stem from ego and cowardice, seeking shortcuts instead of relying on God alone. He knows all, controls all, and answers supplications directly—no intermediaries, no substitutes.

Submission: No Clergy, Direct Responsibility

In Submission, there are no clergy. No priests, saints, or scholars stand between you and God. Every human has equal access to Him, bearing sole responsibility for their soul. Religious hierarchies are human inventions, often tools of idolatry, claiming special authority or intercession. The Quran dismantles this: you don’t need a middleman to reach God or understand His guidance. Clergy can’t save you, forgive you, or speak for you—only you account to God on Judgment Day. This direct link empowers you to seek Him, free from reliance on flawed human mediators.

Beyond Monotheism: Criteria for Heaven

Believe in the Hereafter: Death leads to God’s judgment—Heaven or Hell, eternal and final. No reincarnation or second chances exist; intercession is a myth.

Lead a Righteous Life: God grants freedom to pursue any path, but actions must align with His guidance. The Quran lights the way, ensuring righteous choices and recovery from errors.

Why the Quran?

The Quran isn’t a “Muslim Book”—it’s God’s universal guidance for peace now and success forever. You’re free to choose, but reflect:

Ego’s Trap: It fuels idolatry (like worshiping Jesus) and defiance of God’s system, dooming millions.

Purpose of Life: Knowing why you’re created—submission to God—beats fumbling with human guesses. His system guarantees results; yours can’t.

Worldly Chaos: Satan exploits race, greed, and religion to sow discord. God’s laws, applied individually, bring order despite others’ rejection.

Messengers’ Model: All, including Jesus, submitted to God alone, never seeking worship. Emulate them—don’t idolize them.

Submission’s Triumph: God’s plan unfolds, purging corruptions. His guidance prevails, open to all who seek it.

The Quran offers a clear path: worship God alone, reject clergy, and answer to Him directly. Worshiping Jesus or any entity beside God is idolatry’s pinnacle—repentable, but fatal if maintained. Study this truth, not my opinion, and decide: Will you submit to God alone? The core thesis of the text is that the Quran is a universal scripture meant for all humanity, not an exclusive book belonging only to Muslims. It argues that all major religions have drifted into "idolatry" by elevating human figures (like Jesus or Muhammad) or creating religious hierarchies (clergy). The text calls for individuals of all backgrounds to bypass religious institutions, abandon intermediaries, and submit directly to God alone using the Quran as the ultimate unaltered guide.

Core Teachings & Theological Claims

The article's message can be broken down into three main pillars:

1. The Universality and Preservation of the Quran

  • A Book for Everyone: The text asserts that the Quran does not belong to a single demographic. It is equally intended for Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, and atheists.

  • The Final Consolidated Guide: It claims that while previous scriptures were originally divine, they have been altered by human hands. The Quran is presented as the only pristine, unchanged text that consolidates all prior divine messages.

2. The Strict Definition of Idolatry (Shirk)

The author argues that idolatry is the gravest spiritual error and defines it far beyond just bowing to statues. According to the text, idolatry includes:

  • Deifying Messengers: Elevating Jesus to the status of God, praying to him, or viewing him as a savior. The text stresses that Jesus was strictly a human messenger who worshiped God alone.

  • Sectarian Practices: Appending Prophet Muhammad’s name to the primary declaration of faith (Shahada) or favoring one messenger over another.

  • Intercession Myths: Believing that saints, prophets, or imams can act as middlemen or plead for your soul on Judgment Day.

  • Material and Occult Distractions: Relying on talismans, tarot, astrology, or prioritizing wealth and status over worship.

3. Direct Accountability (No Clergy)

  • Radical Egalitarianism: There is no spiritual hierarchy or priesthood in true "Submission." Religious leaders, scholars, and priests are viewed as human inventions that often distort God's message.

  • Individual Responsibility: Every person has direct access to God and bears absolute, individual responsibility for their soul. No one can inherit or pay for another person's sins.

Structured Breakdown of the Text's Claims

To easily digest the essay, we can divide its assertions into Theological Standards, Targeted Criticisms, and The Criteria for Salvation.

CategoryText's Specific Claims / Assertions
The Criteria for Heaven

1. Worship God completely alone (Absolute Monotheism).

2. Believe firmly in the finality of the Hereafter (no reincarnation).

3. Live a righteous life aligned with Quranic principles.

Criticism of Modern Christianity* Claims the divinity of Jesus, original sin, and the crucifixion/atonement are human corruptions not sanctioned by God.
Criticism of Traditional Islam* Rejects mainstream Muslim traditions that elevate Muhammad's name alongside God's or rely on sectarian laws/hadiths not explicitly decreed in the Quran.
The Human Problem* Ego and Cowardice: The text states people invent intermediaries and clergy because they are looking for spiritual shortcuts to dodge personal accountability.

Key Takeaway: The text presents a purist, non-sectarian approach to monotheism. It challenges readers to strip away cultural traditions, institutionalized religion, and human intermediaries to establish a direct, unadulterated relationship with the Creator.he "Quran-Only" or Submitter perspective represents a radical departure from mainstream Sunni and Shia Islam. While mainstream Muslims view the Prophet Muhammad’s recorded actions and sayings as foundational to practicing the faith, the Quran-Only perspective views those external sources as human fabrications that lead to idolatry.

Here is a breakdown of how these theological views differ on the core pillars of authority: the Hadith, the role of the Prophet Muhammad, and daily religious practice.

1. The Authority of Hadith and Sunnah

The primary divide rests on what constitutes divine law and guidance.

  • Mainstream Sunni & Shia View: They believe that divine revelation came in two forms: the Quran (the literal word of God) and the Sunnah (the inspired lifestyle, practices, and legal rulings of the Prophet Muhammad). The Sunnah is preserved in thousands of oral traditions compiled centuries later, known as Hadith. Sunnis rely on collections like Sahih Al-Bukhari, while Shias rely on traditions passed down through the Prophet's family (Ahl al-Bayt). For both groups, the Quran cannot be fully understood or practiced without the Hadith.

  • Quran-Only / Submitter View: They reject the Hadith and Sunnah entirely as religious authority. They argue that the Quran explicitly states it is "complete," "perfect," and "fully detailed" (e.g., Chapter 6, Verse 114). From their perspective, inventing extra-Quranic laws or attributing sacred authority to books compiled by men hundreds of years after the Prophet's death is a form of shirk (idolatry) and a violation of God's absolute authority.

2. The Role and Status of the Prophet Muhammad

How the Prophet himself is viewed alters the entire framework of worship and devotion.

  • Mainstream Sunni & Shia View: Muhammad is revered as the final and greatest messenger, a perfect moral exemplar (Uswa Hasana). Mainstream Muslims highly respect him, append blessings to his name whenever it is spoken ("Peace be upon him"), and believe that God will grant him the power of intercession (Shafa'at) to plead for the believers on Judgment Day.

  • Quran-Only / Submitter View: Muhammad is viewed strictly as a human messenger whose sole job was to deliver the Quran. Submitters strongly object to appending his name next to God's in the Shahada (the testimony of faith), arguing that the true Quranic Shahada is simply La ilaha illa Allah ("There is no god except God"). They strictly oppose asking Muhammad for intercession, believing that only God holds power over salvation and that elevating any prophet crosses the line into idolatry.

Summary of Structural Differences

The operational differences between these groups fundamentally alter daily worship, religious structure, and law.

Theological AreaMainstream Sunni / Shia IslamQuran-Only / Submitter Perspective
Sources of LawQuran, Hadith, scholarly consensus (Ijma), and legal reasoning (Qiyas). The Quran completely alone.
The Shahada (Creed)"There is no god but God, and Muhammad is His messenger.""There is no god except God" (Rejecting the addition of human names).
Religious HierarchyRely heavily on clergy, jurists, imams, and scholars (Ulema) to interpret law.Reject all clergy; every individual is directly responsible for reading and understanding the text.
Daily Prayer (Salah)Highly specific rituals, physical movements, and recitations dictated by the Hadith.Focus on the core principles of prayer mentioned in the Quran; Submitters specifically use a mathematical code structure (the "Code 19" theory popularized by Rashad Khalifa) to derive their 5 daily prayers.
Sectarian IdentityDivided into schools of jurisprudence (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali, Ja'fari).Reject all sectarian labels, identifying simply as "Submitters" or "Muslims" in the literal sense of the word (one who submits). The Root of the Conflict: To mainstream Muslims, rejecting the Hadith is akin to rejecting the Prophet himself and dismantling the practical framework of Islam. To a Submitter or Quranist, relying on the Hadith is akin to creating partners with God and corrupting a pure, direct message with human traditions.                     The claim that the Quran is the only valid source of divine law forms the absolute foundation of the Submitter framework. From this perspective, adding any external commentary, oral tradition, or secondary book to God's word is viewed not just as a mistake, but as a deliberate diversion away from pure monotheism.

To understand why this viewpoint is so unyielding, it helps to look directly at the specific verses of the Quran used to support it, as well as the unique role "Code 19" plays in locking this belief system into place.

The Scriptural Argument for "Quran Alone"

Submitters and Quran-only believers point to several specific verses within the text to argue that God explicitly warned against using any other source for religious law:

  • On Completeness:

"Shall I seek other than God as a source of law, when He has revealed to you this book fully detailed?" — Chapter 6, Verse 114

  • On Other "Hadiths": The Arabic word hadith literally means "narration," "speech," or "saying." The text uses this word directly when issuing warnings:

"These are God's revelations that we recite to you truthfully. In which hadith other than God and His revelations do they believe?" — Chapter 45, Verse 6

  • On the Sufficiency of the Text:

"We did not leave anything out of this book." — Chapter 6, Verse 38

From this theological standpoint, because the text describes itself as complete and fully detailed, treating centuries-old hearsay or biographical compilations as divine law is viewed as a human-made compromise of God's absolute authority.

Code 19: The Mathematical Seal

For the Submitter movement (largely structured around the work of Dr. Rashad Khalifa in the late 20th century), the rejection of Hadith isn't just a matter of textual interpretation—they believe it is mathematically proven by a hidden architecture within the text itself.

The foundation of this system relies on Chapter 74, Verse 30, which states: "Over it is nineteen."

Submitters argue that the number 19 serves as an interlocking, unforgeable mathematical code that protects the scripture from human alteration. They point to several structural patterns based on this number:

  • The Opening Statement: The Arabic phrase Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim ("In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful") consists of exactly 19 Arabic letters.

  • Word Counts: The total number of times the primary words in the Bismillah appear throughout the entire text (God, Gracious, Merciful) are all exact multiples of 19.

  • The Quranic Initials: Certain chapters begin with isolated letters (like Alif, Lam, Mim or Qaf). When you count every single occurrence of those specific letters within those respective chapters, the grand totals are consistently divisible by 19.

How Code 19 Rejects Hadith

In the Submitter view, this mathematical system acts as a built-in security device. Because human-compiled Hadith books do not possess this mathematical symmetry, they are viewed as structurally separate from divine revelation.

Furthermore, the movement famously used this exact mathematical system to remove two verses from the end of Chapter 9 (verses 128-129), claiming that their inclusion disrupted the perfect pattern of 19 throughout the rest of the text, and asserting they were added later by scribes to elevate the status of the Prophet Muhammad.

The Operational Shift in Worship

When you strip away the Hadith and rely solely on the Quran backed by this mathematical framework, the entire practice of the faith shifts.

  1. The Pure Creed: The testimony of faith becomes strictly La Ilaha Illa Allah (There is no god except God). No human names are added to avoid creating a partner in worship.

  2. No Extracurricular Laws: Traditional rules regarding clothing (like mandatory head coverings or beards), music, art, or overly complex dietary restrictions not explicitly detailed in the text are dismissed as cultural innovations rather than divine obligations.

  3. Direct Connection: The need for an institutional clergy, an elite class of scholars, or dynamic schools of jurisprudence disappears. The text is viewed as an open book, directly accessible to any individual seeking a relationship with the Creator.

The Philosophical Divide: While mainstream theology treats the Hadith as a vital lens to interpret the text, the Submitter perspective views it as a barrier that obscures it. By focusing strictly on the text and anchoring it with the 19 code, they aim to bypass centuries of human tradition to return to what they view as a pure, unadulterated form of direct submission to God.
